A recent report by RMIT University dives deep into the state of how and why planning legislation and building codes carry many discrepancies and are not meeting sustainability goals.
Reviewing current policies as well as VCAT ESD cases across the nation, inconsistencies between both state planning frameworks and local government processes reveal continual passing of responsibility.
The report isn’t all bad news. Despite gaps in legislation and a lack of enforcement, CASBE emerges as a key influencer. CASBE’s collaborative work to enhance collaboration and grow capacity amongst local governments is supporting the implement of ESD policy, the roll-out of building assessment tools and consistent decision-making processes.
According to the report, CASBE’s work is a positive step in the right direction towards more sustainable buildings and communities.
